Initiated by Mirjam Berger, unfinished business was founded as a loose collective of mainly Swiss artists to tackle a fundamental question, the question of truth. This approach is less dedicated to a philosophical inquiry, but is rather trying to explore the practical implications the term generates for the citizen of this planet.  What does truth mean to them? In what form does it exist? Which truths do we encounter in Switzerland, in Europe, in other continents? How come the differences are so large, in what ways do people relate to each other’s truths? How do cultural, political, religious movements influence a certain telling of truth?
Through many different smaller projects we hope to strengthen a practical perspective on a highly debated topic (see the discussions around “fake news” and/or around social media’s impact on elections). Those projects focus on a specific field of interest, say truth in public space or the importance of telling stories. All of those projects function at the same time as a long-term research project of Mirjam Berger who will turn those experiences into a performative installation in October 2019.

Fhunyue Gao (Bern CH) works as a multidisciplinary artist in the fields of the performing arts. Her focus lies in creating a sensorial and visually strong body of work, that serves the themes of the piece as a whole. She follows a working ethic that merges different art forms. This can range from performance, dance, music, writing, lighting, scenography, costumes, installations, cooking, organising events. In a constant artistic process she tries to invent and visualise states of being, melancholic spheres in which ambiguous possibilities of time and space arise.

Often plunged in between the institutionalised and the underground scene, she loves to collaborate with others and works like Dreams of Sleep and Wakes of Sound, When a dragon swallows the sun, Boxing Duo, META, Planimetrie, FLOUR, Snare, KRR, played in various theatres and festivals in Switzerland.

As an autodidact musician/thereminist she plays in the band J.A.W.I.S. that she founded with Annalena Fröhlich in 2016, on solo projects, creates music for theatre/performance pieces, and is part of the Bongo Joe Records shop family.

As a performer she worked for many different companies and artists such as, among others: deRothfils, Unplush, The Scottish dance Theatre (2013-2014), Damien Jalet, Cie Ko Murobushi & Edge, Emma Murray, Company Joshua Monten, Company Idem, Damotus, Bern Ballett (2010-2012), The Hamburg Ballet as a student.
